Sky News will launch its Arabic version in May

The British television channel Sky, whose media tycoon Rupert Murdoch is the largest shareholder, will broadcast in Arabic from the 6th May, reported on its website the Arabian Business magazine  on Tuesday.

The date of the launch of Sky News Arabia, which will compete with Al-Jazeera, Al Arabiya and Alarab was announced Tuesday at a press conference in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

Sky News Arabia is the result of a joint venture between Abu Dhabi Media Investment Corp. (Admic) and British Sky Broadcasting, UK’s leading cable channels, including over 39% of the shares owned by News Corporation of Rupert Murdoch.

The new Sky News Arabia will benefit from the extensive network of journalists and Sky News will cover an audience of some 50 million people in the Middle East and North Africa.
