Box office in North America: “The Lorax” repels the onslaught of “John Carter”

LOS ANGELES, Calif.. – The animated film “The Lorax”, taken from a story by Dr. Seuss, kept the head at the box office in North America, with $ 39.1 million (29.8 million) of revenue at the end of the second week of operation.

This ecological fable produced by Universal 3D-carried by the voices of Danny DeVito, Zac Efron and Taylor Swift-has pushed the onslaught of big Disney production, “John Carter”, which starts in theaters with $ 30.6 million (23.3 million euros). Garbled output for a film that would have cost $ 250 million (190.5 million) and has suffered mixed reviews.

Disney will always try to remake the markets overseas. The adventures of the hero of Edgar Rice Burroughs, now showing in 55 countries, there have so far earned $ 70.6 million (53.8 million).

Here are the estimated revenues of the weekend, from Friday to Sunday in the North American theaters, on the basis of figures provided by the specialized website Hollywood.com:

1. “The Lorax”, $ 39.1 million

2. “John Carter,” $ 30.6 million

3. “Project X”, $ 11.5 million

4. “Silent House”, $ 7 million (5.3 million)

5. “Act of Valor”, $ 7 million (5.3 million)
