In January, Toyota will open a new center research and development in California. It will take the form of a company
called Toyota Research Institute Inc. . which will be installed near Stanford University. A second entity will in turn open close Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
This R & D center will focus on two main areas: intelligence artificial and robotics. Toyota plans to invest 1 billion over
five years and will employ 200 researchers. Research areas will turn to Navigation technology and mobility of people, outside and inside buildings, focusing particularly on issue affecting seniors. Researchers will also work on artificial intelligence applied to automated systems for factories.
The Toyota Research Institute will be led by Gill Pratt, a graduate robotics
